The Lord is Good!
Psalm 34
8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
9 Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints,
for those who fear him have no lack!
10 The young lions suffer want and hunger;
but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
Hey fellas,
With this week being thanksgiving, I imagine at some point your mom or wife will put you on the spot and ask you what you're thankful for. Let me put a little bug in your ear. Be thankful that God is good! Check out this example from a song we sing at church on Sundays.
"What truth can calm the troubled soul?
God is good, God is good.
Where is his grace and goodness known?
In our great Redeemer's blood
Who holds our faith when fears arise?
Who stands above the stormy trial?
Who sends the waves that bring us nigh
Unto the shore, the rock of Christ?"
The beginning of the song asks a good question, "what truth can calm a troubled soul?" Let me tell you, lately, there have been a lot of troubled souls, myself included! I truly believe that the truth of God's goodness can calm and equip ANY troubled soul! For example, all throughout the Psalms we see King David troubled. His troubles were extreme, like people coming after him TO KILL HIM! At one point his own son, Absalom, came after him to kill him and David still came away with a confident belief in God.
Psalm 3
5 I lay down and slept;
I woke again, for the Lord sustained me.
6 I will not be afraid of many thousands of people
who have set themselves against me all around.
Brothers, I imagine no one is trying to kill you. But can you see the level of peace and comfort that comes from recognizing where blessing comes from? So, brothers, consider the goodness of God as you are asked what it is you have to be thankful for. Because in the goodness of God we find a place for our souls to be calmed by any trouble we might come against!
Stay faithful, men!
