"Arrogance leads to nothing but strife, but wisdom is gained by those who take advice." Proverbs 13:11
We all know someone who cannot take advice. We try and try to help them understand an issue that is glaring in their life, but they always seem to know better. But, then given some time watching them do things their own way they always find themselves in "strife" or a trial that could have been avoided.
Here is the rub, arrogance is what prevents us from hearing wisdom and avoiding "strife" or trial. We get so certain of ourselves that we don't listen to the wisdom of others. It got us in trouble as children, as adolescents, as young adults, and now as adults. If we are unable to listen to the wisdom of others we will find out lives in "nothing but strife."
Brothers, be man enough to hear the wisdom of others. Seek out older wiser men who have experienced more than you have and more importantly be man enough to listen to the wisdom of God in scripture. Lay down your pride, it's only gotten you into trouble anyway, seek the peace of our Lord.
"The one who has contempt for instruction will pay the penalty, but the one who respects a command will be rewarded." Proverbs 13:13
