Steadfast Colossians 1:23

Brothers, it's been too long since I've sent out one of these. With our upcoming gathering on Thursday I thought it the right time to reconnect with you all.

As Pastor Jon and I began discussing plans for continuing the momentum of the men's ministry at FBC Gower I thought it was important for there to be a constant theme for the kind of guys we are hoping to grow to be. We read in Colossians 1:23 about the kind of men we hope the men of FBC Gower strive to be "stable and steadfast." Too often we see people who live like those we read about in Ephesians 4:14 "tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes." Being tossed around by the beliefs of man is the way we are born, but when Jesus came the truth of God could now be known!

When we believe in the Gospel message and submit to Christ as our king we find ourselves begin to be transformed by the renewal (transformation/restoration) of our mind. When the Gospel message renews our mind we lose the taste for every "wind of doctrine" that changes. This is the kind of man we are hoping to become through our steadfast men's ministry, men who believe the true gospel message and are steadfast because their hope in life does not rest on the shifty beliefs of man.

Maybe it's time to ask yourself where your belief and hope is placed? Is it placed somewhere that is shifty? Is it placed in something that can change? Or is it built on the dependable Gospel message of Jesus Christ?

I'll leave you with this story.

24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

Matthew 7:24-27
