“Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.” Proverbs 12:1
I know that it is difficult to receive correction or criticism. That is a human problem, not just a guy problem. At times, even when it is clear that we are in the wrong, we avoid correction at all costs. For example, if you have ever watched cops or live PD you will at some point see someone get busted for drugs and the person will go to great lengths to say they did nothing wrong. In one episode I saw someone get caught with heroin in the pocket of their pants, their response was “I don’t know how that got there, someone must have borrowed my pants.” I don’t believe they were delusional I believe they were avoiding the reproof that their actions were wrong.
This is a major issue in our culture, we don’t want to be told we are
wrong. This is why most people will justify their actions especially
when it comes to moral issues. Each of us knows the moral shortcomings that we try to justify or make excuses for. If we take heed of this scripture and love knowledge we will love discipline. That doesn’t mean we have to like it, that just means we don’t reject it when it comes to us. To be real men who are honorable, we need to desire to listen to correction, even if it’s painful.
Stay faithful brothers!
