Hardwired to Consume

Like a dog that returns to his vomit is a fool who repeats his folly.
Proverbs 26:11

I've heard it said before that the definition of insanity is doing the
same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. Insanity is actually a "mental illness of such a severe nature that a person cannot distinguish fantasy from reality." Here is a reality that people have a difficult time with, our sin destroys us. It may not
seem to be an immediate destruction, but given enough time sin will destroy you.

Take Proverbs 26 for instance, when a dog eats its vomit it is
ingesting something that it's gut has rejected. Now we all know that dogs will eat anything, as a person who has found his dog tearing apart a used diaper, I can speak from experience. Dogs will eat anything! They are just wired to consume things!

We are born hardwired with a desire to consume sin. Here is where we get into the destruction aspect. Returning to our sins, those things that we are hardwired to consume, is just like every dog that has its nose in something disgusting. We are consuming our own destruction. This is why the Gospel is an important part of everyday life. First we need to admit that we are sinners who have a desire to sin. Second, we can do nothing about it on our own, we need help. Third, only the creator can help the creation resolve our hardware issues. God knows what we need, He knows what we were designed for and he did not design us to repeat our folly, He designed us for relationship with Him.

Let's not avoid reality and find ourselves living a life of insanity,
let's come to grips with reality and live in light of it.

Say faithful brothers!
