"Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar." Proverbs 30:5-6
So much is here to unpack, but a few things we can easily take away from this proverb. First, every word of God proves true. What is interesting about this reality is that this doesn't manifest itself in our lives too often. Which is when we find ourselves headed down the path of pain. When we don't live like "every word of God proves true," we find out how destructive we can become. Second, the LORD is a shield to those who take refuge in him. There are a lot of places we take refuge in our lives that are not the LORD.
Most of our retreats, rest options, and the things we long for general have nothing to do with the LORD. A beer with the guys, fishing for hours, and working side jobs are not sinful things. But, if they become our refuge, we will pay for it at some point in our lives and it will be PRICEY!!!
Third, we CANNOT add to the words of the LORD. Too often I hear people saying things about their relationship with the LORD that is a complete human fabrication. "I don't need to go to church," "God and I have an understanding," I can worship God in a tree stand." While a couple of these statements are almost true, these statements are mostly spoken as a way to feel like we don't have to bow before our creator.
Here's the rub boys, the LORD is the LORD. His words are true and you better pay attention to them or else. Those who don't listen to the words of the LORD are going to find themselves or their families in a place they are ashamed of. It's up to us men to lead the way. So,start with the words of the LORD. You have what it takes brothers! Stay faithful!!
