14 For the body does not consist of one member but of many.
15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.
16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.
17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell?
18 But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose.
19 If all were a single member, where would the body be?
20 As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.
1st Corinthians 12:14-20
It can be hard to find your place on a team. As I watched the Bulldogs play in the final four state game last night, I saw 9 different players fulfilling 9 different roles and even players not on the field who had roles to fill. I got to thinking, if you could pick one ball player to fill every position who would you pick? I would personally go with Bo Jackson! But would a team full of Bo Jacksons be best? I don't actually think so! I think you would need an Ozzie Smith at SS, and Ken Griffey JR. in Center Field, Nolan Ryan on the mound and Chipper Jones charging bunts at 3rd.
So, here's the deal, if you are in Christ then you were "created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." You were designed to fulfill a specific role on the team of God's kingdom. We aren't all made to be preachers (THANK GOD!!), or deacons, or women's ministry leaders, or the chairman of a committee. Paul puts this question to the church in Corinth "Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?" The reason he asks these questions is because it is plain that not all are created to do every job. As much as we all think we would make a better coach than whoever is coaching, it's simply not our job. We certainly are not meant to do God's job!
Here's my encouragement to you, do your job! Like the Apostle Paul writes to Timothy "fulfill your ministry." Not someone else's ministry, YOUR ministry!
